Big Learning!

Here is a look ahead to our Big Learning for next week!

In Numeracy we will continue to consolidate Subtraction strategies to 20/100/beyond 100 with a particular focus on partitioning the tens and ones and bridging the decade using part whole thinking. e.g. 53-27; 53-20=33, then 33-3=30, then 30-4=26

Our focus sound for spelling next week will be the long ‘a’ sound using the graphemes ai, ay, ea and eigh. Your child should have their group words copied into their Home Learning jotter which will come home today. You can practise these in any way you like, there are plenty of ideas on our Spelling Menu

We are also working on personalised common spelling word lists every day in class.

We will be completing our imaginative story ‘Dragon Girl’ in Big Writing, thinking carefully about our presentation, punctuation and adding plenty of description and detail.

As you will see from our new Learning Overview Term 3 our IDL topic will be ‘The Victorians’ with particular reference to Inverness in Victorian times. We will begin by creating a Victorian timeline next week.

We will also be starting with a general introduction to Sikhism in RME.

We will be enjoying our second four week block of Kodally each Friday morning. I’m sure your child will be able to share some of the fun songs and games we learn.

Helping at Home

I know our P3 parents are very keen to help support learning at home. We will be looking at Multiplication/Division shortly, so counting on and back in 2s, 5s, and 10s is a really good starting point. More confident children could start to work on times tables in this order: 2, 10, 5, 4, 3. Learning the facts in sequence by skip counting is the first step, with the ultimate aim of being able to recall facts out of sequence.

Our Maths focus this term will be telling the time, and so any support you can give with this at home would be great. We should already be confident with o’clock and half past on both analogue and digital clocks; our aim is to master quarter past and quarter to on both analogue and digital clocks. Children who are already confident with this will begin to work on 5 minute intervals.

Finally, Life Skills. Quite a few children in the class are still unable to independently tie their shoelaces; this is something which could definitely be supported and worked on at home.

I would appreciate your support in ensuring that reading books are brought to school every day and Home Learning jotters are returned each Thursday, ready for our new word list on Friday.

Welcome back!

Image result for free 2020 imagesWishing a very Happy New Year to all our P3 families, it was really lovely to see everyone back fit and healthy today!

Just a quick run down for this week.

Our spelling focus this week is the long a sound , a-e or magic e. Spelling words have come home today in the Home Learning jotters. We worked on these words in class before the holiday, so we will have a quick turnaround. These words will be assessed on Thursday (Home Learning jotters handed in please) and new words will be issued on Friday.

New reading books were also issued today; we were slightly short on some titles and so your child may not come home with a book every night. We’ll try our best to swap these around so that each child gets a book home at least every second night.

In Numeracy we are going to spend the first couple of weeks reviewing/consolidating all addition and subtraction strategies covered before the holidays. We will then be moving on to multiplication, division and fractions, with a Maths focus on telling the time.

Our Learning Overview for this term should be available to view on the blog by the end of this week; this will give you some idea of the key learning experiences we will be working on this term. As always, if you feel you can lend your expertise in any of the areas we will be looking at we would love to hear from you. Weekly Big Learning posts will start again next week, with ideas on how to best help support your child in their learning at home.

A quick reminder that all children should have a pair of clean indoor shoes and a PE kit in school each day.

Happy holiday!

Image result for winter sceneIf you managed to make the church service this morning I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I would like to wish all of my P3 families a joyful, restful holiday.

Quite a few pupils off today feeling poorly – I hope you are all feeling much better soon!

Many thanks for your continued support.

See you all in the New Year P3!

We’re nearly there!

Just one more get up for school!

A reminder that our Christmas Service will start at 9.30am tomorrow at Crown Church. Children should wear their uniforms.

The children are also invited to bring their own board games, card games, jigsaws etc. for Together Time tomorrow – no electronic devices please!

Christmas Party

Kids christmas party clip art free clipart imagesThe Primary 3 Christmas party will take place on Monday afternoon (16th December), during school hours.

The children can wear their party clothes to school that day, but will be outside at break/lunch and so will need suitable footwear/outerwear.

Alternatively the children can bring their clothes with them and change in the classroom after having lunch, or have a home lunch and return to school promptly for 1.30pm.

A small snack and juice will be provided. We would ask that children bring an unbreakable cup/beaker with them to avoid generating unnecessary plastic waste.

Thank you!

Reading and Spelling

Due to the time pressures imposed by putting on our P2-4 show this week, and the school being closed to the children on Thursday, there will be no new reading books issued this week. We will also be working on our new spelling words in class, so please do not worry that the Home Learning jotters have not come home. Thank you for your understanding.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Show Tickets

Tickets for our P2-4 show ‘The Last Monster in Scotland’ have been sent home today with your child.

If you requested extra tickets on the original letter I now also have these ready for collection and payment. You can either send the money in with your child, or pay and collect your tickets at the end of the school day – the correct money would be appreciated.

Many thanks for your support – we look forward to seeing you all next week!

Show Tickets

All ticket letters for the P2-4 show should have come home last Wednesday with your child. Please ensure you have returned them with the correct money by this Friday 29th November. Please note that tickets will be issued in the same order as money was received; if your slip is returned later there is no guarantee you will get the tickets for your preferred day. All tickets will be issued next week on either Monday or Tuesday, any extra tickets will then become available for sale. Thank you
