Let’s get singing!

The link below should allow access to the song lyrics for our show, so let’s get practising at home too!

That Friday feeling!

Lots of fun was had today at Kodally with Rosalind, and completing activities in support of Children in Need (we did do our Spelling and Mental Maths too, honest)!

Miss Gray’s ‘I Spy count to 20’ game was trickier than we thought, and we had fun designing jumpers for poor Pudsey, who must feel the cold being such a bare bear in November!

Competition winners will be announced on Monday.

Many thanks to all parents who attended Pupil Progress Update Meetings – it was really lovely to get a good catch up with everyone. Please remember that I am always available to discuss any aspect of your child’s learning or wellbeing at school should you feel the need; an appointment can be readily organised through the school office.

It’s a short week for the children next week with the INSET days on Thursday and Friday. I will not be issuing new reading books until the following week to allow us the chance to undertake some whole class activities around developing reading comprehension skills. We will also be taking some time to revisit and consolidate the phonics/spelling patterns we have worked on this session. Home Learning jotters will come home with new spelling words next Wednesday.

We have also just had confirmation that the school will be used as a polling station on 12th December, which means that the school will be closed to the children on that day.

Please remember Christmas lunch returns for Monday at the latest, if you have not already done so.

Enjoy the weekend!

Parent/Teacher Progress Meetings

Your appointment request slip, with an appointment time added, will be given to your child tomorrow, so please look out for these coming home. The eldest sibling should have the times for each appointment written on their slip. If no request slip was returned to school an available appointment has been allocated. If you are unable to make your given appointment I’d appreciate it if you could please let the school office know.

Big Learning!

One week in and we are already busy, busy, busy!

In Numeracy we will continue to look at Addition and Subtraction strategies: part/whole strategies, doubling and halving, adding strings of numbers and making adjustments.

Our focus sound for spelling this week will be the short ‘o’ sound as in ‘hop’. Your child should have their group words copied into their Home learning jotter which will come home today.

We will continue to look at adding more description and detail to our writing with the use of interesting adjectives to describe fireworks. Primary 3 are working incredibly hard on correct letter formation and joining their handwriting – this could be reinforced at home when practising spelling words.

We will be visiting Inverness Library on Tuesday morning; we will be learning how a library works and choosing a book to bring back to class. Many thanks to Mrs Cameron for organising this.

A big focus of our learning this term will be Expressive Arts; Music, Dance, Drama and Art. This is because P2-4 will be performing a show towards the end of this term. I don’t want to give too much away, but there will be a Scottish theme which will feed back into our classroom learning. We have already made jigsaw maps of Scotland and will be locating all the major cities next week. All children were given the opportunity to practise a section of the script in preparation for auditions next week. If your child has taken a sheet of script home they should practise reading one or two parts in a clear voice with good expression. We will also be starting to learn some traditional Scottish dances in PE.

We had the first of our Kodally sessions today; I’m sure your child will be able to share some of the fun songs and games we learned today.

Enjoy the weekend!
