Big Learning!

Related imageI hope everyone made the most of the long weekend and enjoyed their short school week last week. Back to normal this week – here is a look ahead to our Big Learning!

In Numeracy we will continue to work on Multiplication and Division. Children making good progress in learning times tables facts will be moving on to multiplying by 10/100, multiplying multiples of 10 by a single digit and multiplying 2 and 3 digit numbers by a single digit.

We will also be continuing our work on telling the time.

Our focus sound for spelling next week will be the long ‘o’ sound using o and o-e. Your child should have their group words copied into their Home Learning jotter which came home on Friday. The children can practise their words in any way they like, there are plenty of ideas on our Spelling Menu

In Literacy we will continue to work on use of the possessive apostrophe for plurals.

We will be using the information we collected on Victorian Schools to write our own reports.

We have borrowed a box of Victorian artifacts from Inverness Museum and will be investigating these as part of our topic work.

Last week we began looking at the artwork of L S Lowry by imagining how we would feel if we were inside one of his paintings. We will continue to look at, and interpret, his work over the coming weeks.

Finally, we will be making a start on our new Science topic looking by at forces.

Some children have not yet decided on which famous Victorian they will talk about in their personal presentation. I would really appreciate it if all children could let me know the name of their chosen person by tomorrow at the latest.

I am also still awaiting the return of some jotters which were sent home on the weekend following the Open Afternoon. These should also be returned to school no later than tomorrow, as the children require them daily for ongoing work.
