I can hardly believe that we have reached the last week of our first term together already!
In Numeracy we will continue to look at Addition and Subtraction strategies through Number Talk: part/whole strategies, doubles/near doubles and making adjustments. If your child cannot quickly and confidently recall their doubles facts to 20 this is definitely something which could be worked on at home.
In Literacy we will be assessing progress in our Common Words. Our focus sound for spelling this week will be the short ‘e’ sound represented by the graphemes ‘ea’ and ‘ie’, as in ‘bread’ and ‘friend’.
We will continue to look at adding more description and detail to our writing with the use of interesting adjectives to describe Autumn. Primary 3 are working incredibly hard on correct letter formation and joining their handwriting – this could be reinforced at home when practising spelling words.
New reading books will not be issued this week; the whole class will be working on the reading strategy of Visualisation – using the text to create a picture in our mind.
We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you at our Open Afternoon this Wednesday 9th October 1.45-2.45pm. There is no presentation to start, so please feel free just to drop in if and when you can. Grannies, Grandpas and younger siblings are all welcome. Children can also go to other classes to visit siblings as long as they are accompanied by a parent or carer. If you are unable to attend it would be really helpful if you could flag this up to your child in advance to avoid unnecessary disappointment. Any child without a visitor will spend the afternoon sharing their learning with the Class Teacher.
