I hope you have managed to locate our termly Learning Overview on the appropriate page of our blog. It will give you a good idea of the Big Learning experiences we have planned for the term ahead.

Time to look ahead to next week’s Big Learning in Primary 3!

In Numeracy we are looking at Number Sequences and Ordering; reciting number sequences forwards and backwards in 1s, 10s and 100s  up to 100 or 1000, skip counting forwards and back in multiples of 2, 3, 4 and 5 to 100 and recalling the number before and after a given number in the range 0-100 or 0-1000 for some. This is something which children can readily practise orally at home. We will also be looking at Numeral Identification; naming and representing numbers to at least 1,000 using numerals.

In Literacy we will continue to work on our Common Words; reviewing any errors from our initial assessments and setting targets for moving forwards. We will be focusing on reading aloud with fluency and expression – identifying the spoken words within speech marks. We have set individual targets for writing and your child should be able to share these with you at home; most children need to work on consistently marking sentences with a capital letter and full stop. We are also tightening up on letter formation before looking at beginning to join our handwriting.

We have started to think about having a ‘Growth Mindset‘ – having an ‘I can’t do it YET…’ attitude rather than ‘I can’t…’. By the end of next week your child should be able to tell you what the ‘Learning Pit‘ is, and some ways to get out of it.

Let’s get busy with our learning!
