Home Learning
At the end of the school day time spent with family and friends is invaluable. There will be no formal written homework issued each week, however I will keep you up to date with what we are learning in school via our ‘Big Learning’ posts, along with ideas on how you can support your child in their learning at home. Periodically the children may be asked to prepare a talk or complete a specific Home Learning task.
Spelling
We are spending the first few weeks revising and consolidating the Common Word Lists. Most children will come home with an individualised revision list stuck into their Home Learning jotters tomorrow and these are the words they should work on at home over the next couple of weeks. There are some good ideas in the Spelling Menu. Children who can confidently spell the words up to and including the Diamond list will be issued with an alternative spelling list next Monday.
Please feel free to use the ‘Home Learning’ jotter to record any written practice of spelling etc. if you wish. I will use it to share the Common Words/Spelling/High Frequency Reading Words (for some children only) we are working on in class. Home Learning jotters should be returned to school each Thursday. I will highlight each word when it can be confidently read/written/spelled and new words will subsequently be added in.
Reading
Reading books will be issued at some point this week. As the children have come from three different classes it has been necessary to rejig the reading groups; I will try my very best to ensure that children are not issued with books they have read previously. One of the groups is quite large and your child may not have a book to take home every night. Please don’t worry, we will be doing plenty of reading in class! I will make sure that different children take a turn at sharing each week and that the less confident readers get a book home for additional practice.
